Transports

Multi-modal information system
for different means of transport in the
Greater Lisbon Metropolitan Area

Entities with dealings in the transport sector in the Lisbon Urban Area – whose relationship may be either as a public transport operator or as a traffic-producing hub – have felt the need to make available to the public in general and to their customers in particular up-to-the-minute and multi-modal information.

Certain objectives have become more complex, given the stated intention to make the range of services on offer broader and more flexible, notably in regard to inter-modality; research and recommendations for mono and multi-modal travel routes, while bearing in mind the parameters of cost and travel time; real-time consulting of timetables and special services, such as route conditions, publication of special events, tourist and cultural information, etc.

Partnerships

This Project is the result of a partnership bringing together ANA, SA and the following public transport operators (rail, ferry, above ground and underground transport operators) in the Concelho of Lisbon (urban centre and outlying areas):

  • CARRIS
  • CP
  • METRO
  • TRANSTEJO
  • FERTAGUS

It also includes a partnership in technology with PT.Com - Comunicações Interactivas, SA.

Currently, seeking to join the Project are these companies which operate within the Greater Lisbon Metropolitan Area:

  • TST, Transportes Sul do Tejo
  • TCB, Transportes Colectivos do Barreiro
  • VIMECA, Transportes
  • SCOTT URB, Transportes Urbanos
  • RL, Rodoviária de Lisboa

In May 2004, the partners of TransporLis, signed a Collaboration Agreement with the Directorate-General for Overland and River Transport (Direcção Geral de Transportes Terrestres e Fluviais – DGTTF) which authorised TransporLis to share the information systems for transport in the Greater Lisbon Area and to receive financial support for development under the auspices of the Directorate-General and co-financed by POS-Conhecimento.

Project

The TransporLis Project has developed a website giving information to the public at http//www.transporlis.sapo.pt through which a person can select the best way to get around the Lisbon Metropolitan Area by using public transport with the following operators:

  • CARRIS - Companhia Carris de Ferro de Lisboa, S.A.
  • CP - Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses, E.P.
  • METRO - Metropolitano de Lisboa, E.P.
  • TRANSTEJO - Transportes Tejo, S.A.
  • FERTAGUS - Travessia do Tejo, Transportes, S.A.

As provided for in the terms of the previously-mentioned Agreement with the DGTTF, the transport information for the Great Lisbon Area can be found at http://www.transporlis.sapo.pt, which also displays information on passenger transportation between cities inside Portugal by selecting the any of the following means of travel:

Travel By Motorway: Express and high quality Motorways;
  • Travel By Rail: (CP Rail Portugal offers various timetables and levels of service: Alfa Pendular, Intercidades, Inter-regional and Regional, and FERTAGUS);
  • River Travel : on the Tagus, Sado or Douro Rivers;
  • Air Travel: domestic flights for Lisbon, Oporto, Faro, Bragança and Vila Real.

These sites can be reached via the Portal do Cidadão as well.

This information can also be found at kiosks operated by REFER in railway stations in the Greater Lisbon Area and in five kiosks put up especially for this purpose, one of which is located in the Arrivals Hall of the Lisbon Airport.

More such kiosks are being planned as part of the POS-Conhecimento funding, however, not limited to providing only transport and travel information (in Metropolitan Lisbon and the rest of the country) but including other types of information deemed to be of interest to the TransporLis partners, in whose facilities these kiosks will be placed.

Also envisioned for the year 2006 is access to the transport and travel information via the Call-Center operated by Portugal Telecom, TransporLis’ partner in technology.
